What is Infant Feeding Physiotherapy?
This appointment helps babies with one of their first milestones - feeding! Physiotherapy for infant feeding is an evidence based, specialized service to support families during their feeding journeys. There can be a multitude of factors that can impact your baby’s ability to effectively feed whether that be from a breast, chest, bottle or combination. Tessa is here to support this vital element of your baby’s development, and help create a comprehensive plan tailored to your family’s goals.
What can I expect in this session?
It will begin with a discussion about current challenges, as well as a thorough history on birth process, medical conditions, and various factors that impact feeding. A physical exam will be completed to assess latch, any tightness/asymmetries in the body and in their mouth, reflexes, and general motor development. From there, an individualized plan is made collaboratively that may include strategies for feeding including positioning, bodywork to gently release tension, exercises to complete at home, and referrals to other professionals such as a lactation consultant or a dentist if there are concerns about the presence of oral ties.
What are some of the typical conditions for this service?
We offer a multitude of services including regular physiotherapy, pelvic health, pediatrics, vestibular, concussion, Jaw (TMJ) physiotherapy, occupational therapy and athletic therapy services!
